No matter how well we try to eat and live we’re not immune from its widespread harm.
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup, the most commonly used weedkiller in the world. Nearly 300 million pounds of glyphosate-based herbicide are sprayed on farms—and food—every year.[1]
You can’t 100% protect organic agriculture, or even your own home and lawn, from runoff and ambient contamination.
Too many people and agencies are using it and spraying it. It’s on public grass areas. Your pets get it on them and bring it into your house.
Glyphosate is known as a slow killer. It accumulates in the body and takes time for symptoms to appear.
It’s found in mother’s breast milk.[2] So, infants are getting from the get-go.
Now Bayer (which manufactures Roundup) along with Syngenta/ChemChina, and Dow/Dupont (other chemical and pesticide manufacturers) are working feverishly to obtain immunity from any liability.
Why should you be alarmed?
The companies that are poisoning us and our children want to be exonerated from ALL liability.
I know it sounds crazy.
But it’s true.
In recent years, Bayer has faced approximately 181,000 lawsuits claiming that Roundup, particularly its main ingredient, glyphosate, causes personal injuries, including cancer.[3]
To combat the onslaught of litigation, Bayer has been pushing legislation in nine states, including Iowa and Missouri, that would shield the company from liability.[4]
Bayer/Monsanto recently hired 20 agrochemical lobbyists to convince your Senators and Congress members they should enjoy complete immunity from lawsuits.
Their strategy is to go state by state, then use the states as precedence to have a federal bill passed.
In other words, they’re ploy is to be able to produce pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, and as long as the EPA gives them a license to do so (which does not establish safety for human exposure), then they can never be sued for cancer or other harmful impacts due to exposure to their products.
This is not just about Roundup and Glyphosate, it’s about all pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. And as weeds become Roundup resistant, even harsher, more dangerous chemicals are being introduced.
Meanwhile, the profit from the drugs they sell that treat the harm their products cause, like cancer, depression, and fertility drugs, will continue to soar. That’s why Mom’s Across America is calling these bills the Make America $ick Again Bills. It’s a perfect profit circle for them that they want to protect.
What can you do about it?
First, don’t support the chemical companies. Vote with your food dollar. This means buying organic, keeping it simple, cooking from scratch, and avoiding ultra processed foods, including fast foods.
Second, go to Mom’s Across America’s website to sign a petition and find actions you can take to fight the legislation.
