I’ve spoken a lot about glyphosate. Please bear with me once more.
I think it’s important I explain why I am so adamant in encouraging you to reduce your exposure to it.
And how I can offer you support to do so.
Let me start with some important not-so-fun facts.
So you understand what’s in your food and can draw correlations between the foods you’re choosing and your and your family’s health.
And so you can make informed decisions about what you eat and what you feed your family.
Glyphosate (the primary component of Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide) has been in use since the 1970’s.
Roundup Ready crops are by far the vast majority of all GMO’s. They are designed to be sprayed with Roundup at any time during the growing season. The crops don’t die. But all of the other crops or the other plants around them, essentially weeds, are killed.
This is not good. They’re poisoning our soil and our food.
The core GMO crops in the US are corn, soy, canola, sugar beets, alfalfa, cotton, and tobacco.
But the situation got drastically worse in the US in the 1990’s when Roundup was approved for direct use as a preharvest desiccant on non GMO crops such as wheat, oats, and other grains, and almost ALL legumes .
That is, the crops are drenched in Roundup a few days before harvest, allowing for an earlier, easier, and bigger harvest.
For example, let’s say you have a wheat or oat field and you’re going to harvest. If you’re in a cold climate and you have a short growing season, you want to make sure that everything is ripened in time, uniformly and quickly.1
You can spray a glyphosate-based herbicide like Roundup to force maturation because it is going to kill the crop. The crop thinks: “We’re going to die! Let’s give all the energy to our offspring by hurrying up and ripening; they will carry on.”2
At the same time, it dries down the grain, so the farmer doesn’t have to worry as much about storage and mold.
In addition it kills the weeds that could emerge the next year. So it’s gotten into the soil to be absorbed by next year’s crop.3 Yikes!
It accomplishes a lot for farmers and Big Ag’s bottom line, but it’s a disaster for health.
You can’t wash it off, it’s in the grain or legume. They absorb all the glyphosate and can be higher in glyphosate than Roundup Ready soy and corn.
This applies to almost all (if not all) grains (most notably wheat and oats).
And almost all (if not all) legumes (chickpeas, mung beans, navy beans, black beans, lentils,…).
So if a product is not organic and contains wheat in it (i.e. most all your breads, cereals, and pastas) and is touted as being non GMO, it’s a misnomer.
Wheat is a non GMO crop but it contains a ton of glyphosate because of the process I just described.
Think about it this way, when you’re feeding your child cheerios (or any other cereal) or goldfish, it’s as if you’re pouring a pesticide over their cereal. You could be feeding your child poison everyday.

Here’s a comprehensive report of products tested for glyphosate produced by the Institute for Responsible Technology.
They compiled the results of several organizations doing independent analysis of basic fruits, vegetables, and grains as well as finished products. It’s being continually updated.
And click here to download the PDF Guide on how to understand the data
Consistently, organic tests MUCH less than non-organic, but it is not all the way to zero.
That’s because the use of glyphosate is so prevalent the US Geological Survey found it in 60 to 100% of the air samples and the rain samples in the Midwest.4
So, when there are massive amounts of glyphosate being sprayed, it can end up in the atmosphere and can get on the crops through the water supply, through the rain, and through the air.
We’re ALL being EXPOSED to glyphosate. It’s not a matter of “IF” but “HOW MUCH.”
And what are we going to do to reduce our exposure and to detox from its effects on us.
Some (just some) of the possible consequences of exposure:
- It’s an antibiotic so it kills beneficial gut bacteria and allows pathogens to overgrow leading to gut dysbiosis and leaky gut. (Gut dysbiosis is increasingly recognized as a major driver behind multiple chronic diseases.) 5
- It chelates aluminum and puts it in the brain.6 Know anyone with Alzheimer’s? Autism?
- It’s binds to minerals and prevents the absorption of minerals from the soil to the plant.7
- And it prevents the uptake of minerals into our bodies.8 Minerals are the spark plugs of our bodies. if you’re lacking adequate minerals, you may struggle with fatigue, anxiety, brain fog, depression, blood sugar imbalances, cravings, thyroid and other endocrine issues, and more.
- It interrupts our sulfate pathways9, which among many other issues disrupts our ability to produce melanin (our natural sun protection) and our ability to produce Vitamin D from the sun.
- Interferes with function of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes in the liver (These enzymes serve many important roles, including making bile acids, activating vitamin D, detoxifying many toxic chemicals and breaking down prescription drugs.) 10
- It’s a hormone/endocrine disruptor and can be associated with thyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, irregular menstrual cycles, severe PMS, declining male testosterone, and infertility.11,12
- It depletes glutathione, one of the body’s most powerful antioxidents.13
- And the list goes on and on.
So now what do we do?
First and foremost, vote for a food system that is free of poison by voting with your food dollar and encourage others to do likewise.
Support those who are producing REAL food sustainably. Not those who are trying to poison us.
- If at all possible, buy organic. It may seem more expensive, but NOT when you look at the FULL price. When you spend more now, you save later – in future medical expenses and time “lost” not feeling well or being sick. Think of it as investment in your health and your children and grandchildren’s health. When we avoid glyphosate laced food, it’s not only helping our health, it’s impacting the way food is produced. Think supply and demand. Let’s demand good quality food and force companies to stop poisoning us.
- Know your farmer and how your food is being raised.
- If buying any type of packaged foods, read the list of ingredients. If there’s something you don’t know what it is or something you wouldn’t pull out of you cupboard if making yourself, PUT IT BACK ON THE SHELF.
- Connect with like minded people. Share and exchange resources. And help each other out
- Have a small garden for growing your own vegetables and herbs.
- Become a homesteader.
- And most importantly, pray. Pray God would restore our land and our soil.
I recognize glyphosate is not the only toxin in our food. But when we seek to reduce our levels of glyphosate, we’ll be reducing our exposure to many other toxic chemicals.
I also recognize, switching to REAL food may seem overwhelming and impractical.
That’s why I am here. I am here to help you make it a reality for you and your family. And I am part of a community of believers in REAL food with whom I can connect you in your area.
I am also here to help you “detox.”
Simply stopping consuming toxins will enable your body to start to detox on its own. It happens naturally because when you’re not putting those toxins in your body, it can breathe a sigh of relief and start to let go of all the toxins onto which it’s been holding.
But it may take time and effort to more fully detox. I can help with that.
So click here to book a free consultation with me today. And let me help figure out how to go from here – how to eat and live clean and get rid of the toxins your body has been accumulating.
And please share this information with friends and family.
Thank you,
Karen
